BOURBON BARREL AGED ETHIOPIA HAMBELA
This magical bag of natural-process beans hails from the Hambela Estate in Ethiopia’s Guji Zone, where it’s grown between 1900-2200 meters by METAD Agricultural Development. We should stop for a second here and talk about how rad METAD is; this 3rd-generation family-owned business began after World War II, when the land that would become the Hambela Estate was gifted to Muluemebet Emiru--Africa’s first female pilot--by the Ethiopian emperor. Since then, METAD has worked to strengthen community ties, employing a workforce of over 70% women and providing all kinds of rad educational opportunities, healthcare, and more for its employees. They also help out other local farms with equipment and technical assistance, which we think is pretty fantastic. Oh, and they produce extremely tasty coffee, as is exemplified in this delightful little number, which we aged in bourbon barrels to yield a cup with beautiful notes of mixed berries, rich chocolate, and luxurious oak. You can feel all kinds of good about this marvelous beverage.
NOTE ON COFFEE SHIPPING: Due to our deep and abiding belief that coffee tastes way better fresh, we roast as orders are placed in order to ensure that you get your beans at the apex of deliciousness. This can result in variable shipping times of up to a week before your coffee is shipped to you. Thanks for your patience.
